  If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.

This principle applies for almost everything in our life. Unfortunately, people are usually do not like measuring. They just love doing something without taking care of where they are now and where they are going to?

Now consider if you travel with an aircraft with a pilot that does not care of the speed, altitude and weather condition. Do you want to fly with him? I bet, you won’t. But the question is, “why don’t you do the same thing in life?”.

ISO 9001:2000 is an international standard for Quality Management System developed by the International Organization of Standards in Geneva, Switzerland. It mainly sets up requirements for an organization to meet customer satisfaction on a continual improvement basis.

What is ISO

ISO a short name (as well as brand name) for International Organization for Standardization. Actually “ISO” was derived from the Greek isos, meaning "equal". Whatever the country, whatever the language, the short form of the organization's name is always ISO.

ISO is a non-government organization founded on 23 Februari 1947.  To date ISO is made up of 157 members out of 195  countries in the world, which are divided into three categories: Member bodies, Correspondent members, Subscriber members.

Abstract

At this modern globalization era, quality is no longer stand as an option, it is a must. You may see online advertisements or billboards at your local town saying that they are something better, faster, more trouble free, etc. They are trying to position themselves as superior to others, more beneficial than their competitors. You will see when competitors are there, a company will getting promote and improve its quality level.

Nowadays, quality is not merely about products or services, it goes even further. Quality is now playing important role on marketing and branding.

Remember, a company can only make profit if it has definite target market with profitable market share. When marketing and branding are the main key words, quality is the most important elements behind.

If you read quality text books or websites you will find quite a lot and various definitions on quality. One might say that quality is meeting specifications, another describes a quality is conformance, and many more.

Among those definitions, I prefer Dr Ishikawas’s “quality is customer satisfaction”. If you want to measure your quality level, so measure your “customer satisfaction level”. If your customer is well satisfied, it means that your quality is sound. And, this applies for everyday life. For instance, if your spouse or friend is happy, you have a good quality relationship with him/her. In short, quality is something that makes you and others happy.
